Tips for your first Qualifier
This year’s Lowlands Throwdown is the tenth edition, but also a first; our first edition as an official CrossFit® sanctioned event. Maybe it’s going to be your first time too? We are only two weeks away from our Qualifiers, so now is a good time to register (seriously though, register) and start thinking about how you are going to approach your participation in the biggest CrossFit® event in the BeNeLux and performing three WODS a day. Here are our five tips for those competing in the Lowlands Throwdown for the first time.
1. Scaling is not failing.
At the CrossFit Lowlands Throwdown we like to stress that CrossFit is everyone’s game. That is why we try to keep as many of you in mind when programming (the scaled version of) our WODS. Of course, CrossFit is infinitely scalable and our WODS can be scaled to accommodate al abilities. Let go of the idea that scaling is a negative thing to do. It takes self-knowledge and maturity to know when to scale. You are not showing weakness in any way, you are only showing you’re will to get stronger and that you’re willing to take the steps necessary to get to your goals.
2. Switch your phone to airplane mode
Seriously though. You don’t want to have mom calling in the middle of one of the WODS making you have to start all over again.
Don’t worry if you are not sure yet about how to video the WODS and how to prove us you’ve performed the WODS in the right order and on the same day. We will release information on how to do this together with the Qualifier WODS.
3. Get the right gear
Make sure you wear comfortable gear. Reebok created a collection specifically for the sport. Also make sure you’ve read the rules in our Rulebook on the use of tape, hand-protection etc. You don’t want your score to be invalid because you didn’t read the rules properly.
4. Recover smart
Take your time to recover between the WODS and do give mother nature a little help by drinking enough. Preferably water or a smart recovery drink like FitAID, with only the highest-quality ingredients & essential nutrients your body needs after an intense WOD.
5. Attend a Qualifier event
If your box hosts an event, attend it! Nothing is more fun than competing together and cheering your buddies on to give it all they’ve got. Besides that, you’ll see how big your community actually is and you might even make new buddies as you get to know some people who don’t attend the same classes you do.
